Are you looking for fresh ideas for notebook pages? Follow the hashtag #100DaysofNotebooking on Twitter and get ideas from other notebookers! That's what I'm doing. Here are some ideas for this week...

YOU'RE STILL HERE...Celebrate that!!!
Happy Notebooking!

* Make a list. Lists are a great way to create an entry for a notebook page. Make a “DONE” list instead of a “To Do” list. List everything you’ve accomplished. It feels good. Have fun!

* Write a letter. Be reflective. Write a letter to last year...Dear 2019,

* Dream! Make a bucket list of places you’d like to go, things you’d like to achieve...the sky is the limit.

* I love quotes. I’ll share a quote each week to trigger some writing. Read this. Copy it into your notebook. Write about it!
“Because the world needs your spark. The world needs your energy. The world needs you to show up for your life and take hold of your potential! We need your ideas. We need your love and care. We need your passion. We need your business models. We need to celebrate your successes. We need to watch you rise back up after your failures. We need to see your courage. We need to hear your what if. We need you to stop apologizing for being who you are and become who you were meant to be.”
― Rachel Hollis

* Use stickers or markers or watercolors in your notebook. Create a collage. Find something outside of your comfort zone today. Be creative. Get messy. See what happens.

* Listen to your favorite podcast or find a new one. Grab your pen and use your notebook pages to process what you’re hearing. Jot down quotes. Add your reflections and reaction.

* Here’s an excerpt from a poem. (It's called "Origin Story". Here's a video of the performance by the poets!) Print it or copy it into the pages of your notebook. Allow these words to inspire your own words. Sarah Kay and Phil Kaye write beautifully about friendship. Try it yourself...
And they could tell you what a miracle this is.
They could tell you how rare this is.
But they could tell you how rare friendship always is.
The chances are slim.
The cards are always stacked against you, the odds are always low.
But I have seen the best of you, and the worst of you, and I choose both.
I want to share every single one of your sunshines and save some for later.
I will tuck them into my pockets so I can give them back to you when the rains fall hard.

We are nineteen days into our challenge. This past week was hard. It was challenging finding time to notebook every day and to share and to comment on the posts of other notebookers. Did you struggle this week?

It's ok!

This is the point when we are all figuring out how to truly incorporate this practice into our daily lives. There are days when it works and days when it doesn't. Don't give up! Take the time to notice when it doesn't work out. Ask yourself why it didn't happen. See if there's a small change you can make to adapt. Leave the judgment behind!

No apologies are needed if you've missed a day or multiple days. Just celebrate the fact that you are back. One hundred days is a lot. Take it moment by moment. Lean on the community we've created here and don't give up!

Day fifteen has been a good day of notebooking for me. I spent lots of time inside the pages and I feel it. I always FEEL better when I notebook consistently.

I was thinking about this community and wondering how YOU are feeling. I created a survey. I hope you will take a few minutes and share with me how you're doing. I really want to hear from you. Thank you in advance!

Happy Notebooking!

Writing Marathon

Here's a photo of some of our notebookers during a writing marathon in Pennsylvania this weekend. What is a writing marathon, you ask? The idea was created by Natalie Goldberg, in her book Writing Down the Bones. It's when a group of people get together and write. You write for about ten minutes and then the group gets up and walks some more until you find another place to write. The process repeats until the group is ready for a break. It's a wonderful way to find a new perspective in your writing and to find a community to support your writing.

What if you had your own writing marathon? Could you be part of a writing marathon? Maybe there are people in our group who are geographically close to you. Share a post. Extend an invitation. Find a date, a location, and write. It will be so worth it! I'll be inviting people to one in my neck of the woods soon. If you are too far away from others, keep your eyes open for a virtual writing marathon. The plans are still in the works, but I'll keep you updated.

The most valuable part of the writing marathon is the community aspect. Writing can feel like a solitary event, but finding a community to support, to encourage, and to keep you accountable is priceless. Keep notebooking! We are here for you.

Are you looking for fresh ideas for notebook pages? Follow the hashtag #100DaysofNotebooking and get ideas from other notebookers! That's what I'm doing. Here are some ideas for this week...

Happy Notebooking!

* Make a list. Lists are a great way to create an entry for a notebook page. I love to make a list of words...your favorite words, words that sound good, words that are new to you. Have fun!

* Write a letter...to something in your life that you’d like to get rid of...fear, pain, guilt, a pair of shoes. Be creative.

* Think about something that annoys you. Write a rant! Let it all out. Write and allow your emotions to fall all over the page.

* I love quotes. I’ll share a quote each week to trigger some writing. “Instructions for living life:  Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” –Mary Oliver

* Find something to tape into your notebook...a card, a quote, a receipt, a photo, anything. Tape it in with washi tape and write all around it. Use it to inspire the story.

* Here’s a poem. Print it or copy it into the pages of your notebook. Allow these words to inspire your own words. Cleo Wade writes beautifully about loving yourself. Try it and see where it takes you:
A love note to my body:

first of all,
I want to say,
thank you.

for the heart you kept beating
even when it was broken

for every answer you gave me in my gut

for loving me back
even when I didn't know how to love you

for every time you recovered when I pushed you past our limits

for today,

for waking up.

We are one-tenth of the way finished with our challenge! This is so exciting.

Today,I have spent little time on social media today. It was a busy day and part of me feels guilty, but as I snuck on to check, I'm grateful that the community continues to support and encourage each other.

Keep showing up for each other. Keep showing up for yourself. We are here for you!

Day Nine

Today reminds me of the power of the notebook. It was one of those days when I woke up and I had a lot to say, a lot to write. With this challenge, I find myself very aware of what I'm putting on the page because I'm sharing it, but this morning I forgot all of that. I wrote it all out. My "share" is only one of my pages from this morning and it's blurred. Remember that sharing is your choice, sharing is for support and encouragement, and there are lots of different ways to share.

Wherever you are in your journey, take a moment and look back on the pages you've created so far. Congratulate yourself for showing up and trying something new. Find something you are really proud of and linger there.

Are you sharing this journey with anyone? Do you have a friend to notebook with? How about a family member? Students? Colleagues? Sharing the journey helps when you falter and when you celebrate! Maybe that's something you can do today...find someone and invite them to join you.

Most parents I know read to their children. It's a bedtime routine, a ritual. It's valuable time spent together. What if parents and kids notebooked together? The times I've spent with my niece and nephew notebooking are some of my favorite memories! Happy Notebooking!

How are things going? Are you still writing? Have you experienced the "I don't want to write today" feeling yet? If not, you will. Remember to celebrate the small successes. Remember to show yourself grace. If you've missed a day or two or more, come back.

I'm going to quote my good friend, Teach Write owner, Jennifer Laffin who always says, "Progress, not perfection." It's true. I like the messy progress of it all. The challenges when I've missed days and come back are the most successful to me because I know I've found a way to fix my mistakes. I've missed something and yet still returned...that's not a small thing.

You continue to inspire me. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Happy Notebooking! My pages today include the origin story of #100daysofnotebooking. Enjoy!

Day Seven

Bella, my dog, is not too happy that I want to spend time today writing. She has other ideas.
Today is a snow day. I was just deciding whether or not I had time to write a blog post and magically an entire day was gifted to me. I want to welcome new notebookers to our journey! We are SO glad you're here! Follow #100daysofnotebooking on twitter and you are invited to join our Facebook Group too.

Messy pages. A lot has been said in our group on Facebook and on twitter about being intimidated about the beauty of many of these pages. I agree! Some of them are breathtaking and sometimes I think, "I'm not an artist. I can't make that." The thing is that I don't have to make that. You are here to record YOUR story in your own way! No one can tell your story, so you must.

I have pages that I've created that are pleasing to the eye. I like using colorful pens and doodling on the page. It's not about any of that though...it's about showing up to the page. It's about leaving a piece of yourself on the page. I've learned that there have been too many times when I've valued the "look" of a page over the content. I'm continue to learn and grow. In my experience, messy pages are when I just don't care and something surprising always comes out. Messy pages hold so much of my untangling of life. Messy pages represent learning and growing.

In my classroom, we celebrate the messy pages! For those of you notebooking with students, please remember how hard this is and value the process over the product. Don't require colorful pens, instead invite them to use what's most comfortable for them. Doodling and drawing is exciting for some of your students and it's not for others. Honor the notebooker...and do that for yourself.

Messy pages, colorful pages, neat pages, crazy pages...ALL are welcome here! Happy Notebooking! #100daysofnotebooking
